2006-04-05 - Broking community voice their concerns


Following the joint announcement by NOS and Imarex (3 April 2006) of their proposed merged ownership, brokers have expressed their concerns at a move that will be to the detriment of free trade and free competition in the freight derivatives market.

rnrnFollowing concerns at the level of fees historically charged by NOS, new contracts have recently been signed by OTC brokers after assurances that all brokers would be treated in line with Imarex when giving up trades for clearing. This merger flies in the face of the spirit under which these new contracts were signed and brings into question the impartiality of NOS in the future.

rnrnLCH.Clearnet recently (March 2006) announced their intention to launch a similar number of identical tanker FFA contracts, offered at 1/5th of the price.
